markj99 visited on 20th Mar 2012 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 3 Avielochan Clava Cairn is sandwiched between the A95 and the railway line. Despite this the site has a peaceful ambience, promoted by the ring of mature trees which surround the cairn. The kerb is delineated by c. 10 trees and intermittent large stones. The interior has been robbed out exposing a stone lined passage to a central chamber. I prefer this somewhat neglected Clava cairn to the over-restored cairns at Balnuaran.

Avielochan submitted by PeteCrane5 : There are thought to be the remains of two Clava Cairns at Avielochan. Avielochan East (or south depending on who you read) is a smaller rounded and grass covered 'lump' some 10 metres from the obvious monument. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Avielochan West Cairn is located at NH 9094 1672 according to Canmore ID 15396. This location is c. 100 yards E of the NGR given for this site.
