Standing Stone (Menhir) in West Glamorgan

Come off the A48 at the B4248 drive past the golf course and under the railway bridge, there is a layby here. Walk back under the bridge and on for about 100mtrs, there is a field gate on the left, the stone is at the far side of the field. There was no one about to ask so I crossed the field, which had not long been harvested. It is a magnificent stone possibly 8ft high. St Samson is supposed to have thrown this from Margam Hill, why, who knows?

Tyn'r y selar submitted by sem : Ancient & Modern The efficacy of this stone remains undiminished. It is able to power the National Grid and levitate a white lorry and red car simultaneously. On the more mundane side, it is often a perch for buzzards who fly away at the first sight of a camera. (3 comments)

The accepted name of this stone is Ty'n - y - Cellar and comes from the name of the nearby farm. A literal tranlation is The House in the Cellar and may be derived from the fact that the house was originally owned by the Cellarer of Margam Abbey.
