Holy Well in West Glamorgan

Just down Beach road from St John's church. The level is reputed to be affected by the level of the tide in Severn estuary (quarter of a mile away). When the tide is high, the well is empty but full when the tide is low.

Visited here on a wet day, the church is pretty, but the well has barbed wire around the back and there is no access to the water at all. A bit disappointing.

According to Janet & Colin Bord in their book 'Sacred Waters' this well is 100 yards from the south side of St John's church. The well is in the parish of Newton Nottage. Stanford's Well is named for a knight hospitaller of St John who built the church.
