Stone Row / Alignment in Ceredigion

This single stone row has a length of 4 metres and is made up of 3 medium and large stones with an orientation of 90 degrees. The site sits at an altitude of 261.6 metres and has a view out to sea.

The Coflein record for the Brwyno-Canol Stone Row states that this is a possible prehistoric stone alignment set within a broad 'religious, ritual and funerary' context. The site description tells us: "An alignment of stones is located just inside a forestry plantation, on the southern crest of a ridge above the Afon Brwyno at 255m above sea level close to a junction of old field walls ..... The present alignment is 4m long but may have been considerably longer. A wall to the immediate west incorporates several linear blocks which may have been derived from a longer stone row. At the wall junction (off alignment) is an erect monolith."

The Archwillo record for this monument (PRN 6247) puts the site as Bronze Age Standing Stone/Stone Row but says they were unable to get to the site because of the dense afforestation in the area in 2006.

Update October 2019: This row is featured on the Stone Rows of Great Britain website - see their entry for Brwyno-Canol, which includes a description, photographs of the alignment and the individual stones, a plan of the stone row from a recent survey in September 2019.

The SRoGB notes: "This is not an easy row to get to …. The tracks within the forest are overgrown and it is recommended that a GPS is used to help navigation towards the row".

Brwyno-Canol
Brwyno-Canol submitted by SandyG : Stone 5 is a large orthostate measuring 0.50m long by 0.20m wide and standing up to 1.68m high. It appears to be leaning against the drystone wall and is probably not very deeply set into the ground. It is not on the same alignment as the other stones and this combined with its position at a wall junction suggests that it is much more likely to have been erected at the same time as the wall. It... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Brwyno-Canol submitted by SandyG : Stone 4 (right of the ranging rod) is largely hidden below the soil, although its outline was determined by prodding. This stone measures 1.60m long by 0.47m wide and only part of it barely protrudes above the ground surface. This stone probably fell southward. View from south east (Scale 1m).
