Tair Carn Uchaf
Tair Carn Uchaf submitted by sem : Cairn C This shot is taken from Tair Carn Isaf Cairn A, and Cairn C nestles beautifully in the notch. Cairn A seems to be relatively insignificant until you notice this 'sightline'. Move 5 yards in any direction and this effect vanishes. This cannot be pure chance! (Vote or comment on this photo)
Cairn in Carmarthenshire. There are 3 cairns grouped here, designated AB&C by Coflein (E-W). A and B are particularly prominent when viewed from Carn Pen y Clogau to the East.

The grid ref is taken from the westernmost cairn.

Note: Sem writes: This shot (top) is taken from Tair Carn Isaf Cairn A, and Cairn C nestles beautifully in the notch. Cairn A seems to be relatively insignificant until you notice this 'sightline'. Move 5 yards in any direction and this effect vanishes. This cannot be pure chance!

Tair Carn Uchaf
Tair Carn Uchaf submitted by sem : Looking East the 3 cairns. From right to left you can see C,B and A with Carn Pen y Clogau (the small lump) between B and A on the horizon. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Tair Carn Uchaf
Tair Carn Uchaf submitted by sem : Looking East from Tair Carn Uchaf, Carn Pen y Clogau can be seen on the horizon. Walking towards this and then looking back shows only cairns A and B on the horizon. Picture taken from SN697177. I have recently found that this effect, only two cairns visible from any one point, applies to some cairns in Somerset. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Tair Carn Uchaf
Tair Carn Uchaf submitted by sem : By moving anti-clockwise around Cairn C, Cairn A is now revealed (left in picture). The visual effect of Cairn A is enhanced by it being sited on top of a scree slope, making it look as if the scree was part of the cairn's construction. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Tair Carn Uchaf
Tair Carn Uchaf submitted by sem : As you approach Tair Carn Uchaf, Cairns C and B are visible on the horizon (left to right) with Cairn A currently hidden. This group produces an effect similar to Tair Carn Isaf (Vote or comment on this photo)
