Moel Goedog 7
Moel Goedog 7 submitted by TheCaptain : The second stone along the route of the Fonlief Hir ancient trackway is a splendid slab of a stone, much taller than me. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The second stone of the Moel Goedog complex of standing stones if travelling towards Moel Goedog from the southwest.

The tallest of the stones, found by the cattle grid at SH60133130.

From Coflein
Standing stone 2.2m high, 0.9m wide and 0.4m thick at the base. An earthfast stone is visible on the west side. This is the tallest of the five stones (SAM ME057a) scheduled along the supposed route of the Fonlief Hir ancient trackway (SAM ME058).

Update November 2019: The Stone Rows of Great Britain discusses the possibility of the nine standing stones at Moel Goedog making up a single stone row measuring 1,898 metres long, standing on a prominent ridge overlooking the sea. Their entry for Fonllech includes a description, a plan of the row from a survey carried out in August 2018, photographs of all the stones in the alignment, access information and a list of online resources for more information. The SRoGB also includes a section discussing the interpretation of this monument. This is the SRoGB's stone 8 in the row.

For information about the other stones in this probably alignment, see the individual site pages for Moel Goedog 1 to Moel Goedog 9 inclusive, plus the Moel Goedog E ring cairn.

My notes from Sept 2016:
This second stone takes a bit more getting to, in the field to the north, behind a large wall near to the cattle grid. It’s a splendid slab of a stone, much taller than me.

As I am looking I get called over by one of two walkers out for the afternoon, and he is asking me about the stones and what I think they are for. He obviously has some thoughts himself, and seems almost quite abrasive with me, possibly because he is speaking English although obviously a Welsh speaker first. When I tell him I have no beliefs, but think they are probably marker stones, he starts about the flat sides facing directly north and south, and there must be a reason for that, but I say I’m not so sure it is as originally placed, as it looks to me like the stone may have been re-erected at some time. He keeps challenging my statements, but says nothing for himself, before his mate tells him to leave me alone and they walk on. I wonder who he was, clearly somebody with a lot more knowledge than he was letting on.
