Hillfort in Gwynedd

An Ordivices hillfort enclosing a long pear shaped area of about 1.5 acres at about 450ft above OD, occupies the end of a spur bounded on the North West by a dry valley and on the East side by a steep descent to the Afon Ogwen.
The site is devided into two parts by a modern field wall running fron East to West. It is in the Northern half of the site that you will find the best preserved ramparts. Being 5 foot high and 5-6 meters wide faced with large boulders. The main enterance was at the North West side and it also contained a guard chamber.
It was excavated in 1976 where it was dated back to the 1st/2nd century BC. During the excavation they found "yellow rings like torcs worn on wrists were found together with badly fired urns containing ash and bones".
The area is badly overgrown and local children have also been building dens on the site and using the northern rampart as a bike track!
