Roughtor South
Roughtor South submitted by TheCaptain : A hut circle at the Roughtor South village. Many of the buildings here seem to be complex double or treble roomed dwellings. View looking north towards Roughtor itself. (Vote or comment on this photo)
All around the lower slopes of Roughtor are many remains of hut circles and field systems. These seem to fall into two distinct villages, one on the north-western slopes, and this one on the southern slopes, just to the north of Fernacre stone circle.

There are multitudes of round hut remains to be found here, many with what seem to be a second room attached. Reaves, boundary walls and other stones abound all over the place. A lot of time could be spent exploring this ancient village, but it was getting late in the day and I had to start my long walk back to the car.

It was also very tempting to climb to the top of the magnificent Roughtor, with its enclosures and other features on top, but that will have to be left for another day.
