Carn Briw
Carn Briw submitted by pab : Carn Briw, from the northern slopes of Mynydd Ingli, on which the wonderful Carn Ingli 'sits' - or should that be 'is enthroned'? COFLEIN refers to this as simply "A disturbed cairn, 17m in diameter and 1.8m high." The name Carn Briw in fact means just ...'shattered heap of stones'! What a sad name for such an atmospheric place. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Carn Briw
Carn Briw submitted by sem : Carn Briw Coflein NPRN 304304, describes it as disturbed cairn of unclassified date. In the background is Carn Ingli, the Mount of Angels. St Brynach would go up there to commune with them. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Carn Briw
Carn Briw submitted by pab : Carn Briw. Taken from Carn Ingli, we hope that this alignment of Carn Briw and the 'twin peaks' further west does not offend! Even on a slightly hazy day, the line of cairns and peaks around the horizon was very striking from Carn Briw - definitely somewhere for us to revisit on a clear day. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Re: Carn Briw by Anonymous on Thursday, 24 September 2020
Can’t tell from other people’s photos, and unfortunately I didn’t have a map or camera with me, but if this is this one I think it is there is a distinct ’pyramid’ to the E side which felt very much like it had built up by walkers, and an open ring cairn several metres across immediately adjacent to the W side, entrance to the ring cairn roughly SW. When I visited the day before September Equinox, I found that the setting sun was perfectly framed in a space created with a stone slab (again presumably created by a walker). I didn’t notice any other gaps in the stones like that- all stones within it were lichen-covered and look to have been in situ for a significant time. I love that somebody else perched there at an Equinox!

Condition: currently given on Portal as 4, I would have said 3, as it has been significantly changed and seems to being added to by walkers.
Ambience: 4
Access: 3

Accuracy - GPS reading of SN 05635 37067 would give it score of 5

Carn Briw translates to 'shattered heap of stones', but it really deserves a far better reputation! Its alignment between the fabulous Carn Ingli and significant sites across the Preselli Hills alone makes it very special, as hopefully some of the pictures from our visit in October 2007 will show.
