St Eval Church Stones
St Eval Church Stones submitted by hamish : This one is ov the left of the gate and not quite so overgrown. (Vote or comment on this photo)
These Stones are in the perimeter hedge and you have to look hard for them. A walking stick is handy to part vegetation, I have pictures of two but I believe there are more.

Another excuse to come here again. I think Angie has been to the church and reports Green Men.

St Eval Church Stones
St Eval Church Stones submitted by AngieLake : Another stone in the perimeter wall at St Eval in Cornwall. This one is approximately south of the south main door of the church. There are no less than six Green Men bosses on the ceiling inside the church. It is very atmospheric inside: you can't help but remember those brave young men who fought for our country in WW2.

The church dedication is to St Uvelos (Eval). He was a Welsh (Celtic) monk of the 6th century, and the brother of St Cenydd; some say his son. He settled at what became St Eval, a hamlet near Padstow, Cornwall. This saint was also venerated in Brittany.

notes from my visit on 25 Sept 2012.
St Eval churchyard supposedly has several large standing stones within it and the wall surrounding it, but I was unprepared and didn't know how many or where to look; as a result I only found one of the 3 or more standing stones in its surrounding wall.

There is also a large stone which has been used as part of the foundations at one corner of the church.

Makes you wonder whether there was once a circle here, as the churchyard seems roughly circular and bounded by a cornish hedge.

Dad is more interested in all the RAF memorials and graves, over 900 aircrew lost from here during the war.

The first time i looked i only saw the one stone but next time i went i had Meyn mamvro no.74 with me because on page 19 there's 2 plans [i'll put it on as i don't think anybody would mind]. I found all 4 and along with the other stone in the foundations it's hard not to see it as a ruined stone circle [there's another smaller stone near the gate as well], it's a big sky at the site as well.
