It is unknown whether the stone has any prehistoric significance however it is situated in an area once abound with antiquities, most of which were slain by the quarrymen.
A hundred yards up the lane is the site of the long destroyed Maen Toll, a gigantic logan stone poised on two points and the nearby farm Maen Pearne was named after a huge longstone of some 7 metres, the tallest in Cornwall which was sadly destroyed in the 1750's. Just across the valley is a small menhir reputed to be the marker or remains of a far larger predecessor.
This stone is in a beautiful area not far from other megalithic sites and is well worth a visit. There is another similar, possibly stranger shaped stone nearby very close to Pixies Hall at Trewardreva.
