combuijs couldn't find on 13th Jul 2015 Not easy to spot either. Not my day apparently...

praeceptor visited on 15th Apr 2011 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 3 Access: 2 Some time ago I spotted this Barrow from a train, and today the exactly reverse happened, because standing at the barrow I spotted lots, and lots of trains passing very close and at high speed. Poor Chief Longlegged Reese won't have much peace here at his restingplace.

Local Children have set a Nisse (in Danish) or Santa Claus (julemanden in danish) on the long barrow for many years. Now the children have grown up, but still set a Nisse (Santa Claus) in Chrismas time on the long barrow. I LIKE IT. The barrow. 52,4x9,5 meter. 45 curbstones. 3 chambers, but disturbed.

The position is fine, but the nearest town isn't Copenhagen. Nearest Town is Viby Sjælland, and if isn't big enough the nearest bigger town could be Roskilde og Ringsted.

To get there by public transportation you'll take the local train to Viby Sjælland.

National Museum, Danish Department., Danish Prehistory
Protected Long Barrow, "Longlegged Reese's Mound", 52.40 m. long, 9 1/2 M wide. Longitudinal direction east-west. There are 5 stones each end, 18 north, 17 south, there are 23 or down fallen/slidden. In the middle of the eastern half is a low stone-lined grave, 1 1/2 meter long, with 3 Side stones. One or two other possible graves are cleared.

Long barrow "Longslegged Reese's Mound" in Birkede Forest. 52.40 m l in ENE-WSW x 9.5 m. 5 Kerbstones each end, 18 North, 17 against S. In the middle of eastern half a low, stone-lined pit, 1.5 m l, 3 Leftover. Covered with dense beech thicket.

1982 New Inspection of protected sites
Forest and Nature Agency, 10 office
Longlegged Reese's Mound. Long Barrow, measures approximately 2x52, 4x49, 5 m in ENE-VSV direction. A chamber in the NE-end, elongated with longitudinal direction the same as the hill, 3 support stones and opening towards the east, no capstone. Located in a hollow in the mound, another 2 hollows S evidence. There is a worn path along moundtop. Large stones: NW 18, NE 4 (and 1 very small), SE 17 and SW 5th A woodland path leads past the mound, about 700 meters from public roads. Terrain is difficult to describe because of adjacent lineside and forest vegetation, apparently low. ** Legend ** Great Sight, well preserved long barrow (early excavated).
