Cairn in Isle of Lewis. Cnoc Nan Dursainean is a cairn situated c. 0.5 mile SE of Garrabost on the Eye Peninsula, Isle of Lewis. The grassy oval cairn measures c. 25 yards on the SSW-NNE Axis and c. 15 yards on the WNW-ESE Axis. All small and medium sized stones have been removed from the cairn leaving the N half empty. The S half has perhaps a dozen structural earthfast stones including an open chamber consisting of three remaining slabs on a SE-NW Axis. These stone sit upon a c. 4 feet platform raised above the moorland.
.
Canmore ID 4393 has several ideas about Cnoc Nan Dursainean. It was theorised that it was surrounded by a stone circle but a field visit in 2005 suggested the outer stones were survivors of a peristalith. The latest field visit in 2009 proposes that the cairn was built on a square plan.
