Anta do Mezio submitted by Alta-Falisa : Easy to find along the road N.202 going from Soajo (go and see a curious pillory - signposted "Pelourinho"- in the historic part of the village) to Arcos de Valdevez (a nice larger town). The Information Center of Mezio, providing info about the Parque Nacional de Peneda-Gérês [PNPG] in general, is just off the right of this photo. Easy to find along the road N.202, clearly signposted towards the right-hand side when driving from Soajo to Arcos de Valdevez. The Information Centre of Mezio is just next to it. The Mezio´s Megalithic Area consists of about a dozen monuments spread out on a plateaux area around 2km in length, allowing thus the contact with the unique examples of these pre-historic tombs erected around 5000 years ago.
The area comprises three monuments that have been scientifically studied and enhanced, the Mamoas (burial mounds) 1, 5 and 6. There, the visitor has graphic information on the studied monuments, allowing the acquaintance with whole primitive architectural complex, as well as the areas enhanced by global intervention. Mezio´s Megalithic Area is a case of a rare importance, not only because the scientific information it has provided, but also due to the recovery and enhancement of our heritage from such a remote and unique period.

    This dolmen is the "Anta de Mezio" proper, right along the road N.202 and next to an Information Center.
    There are five such informations centres around the Parque Nacional de Peneda-Berês, called Portas ("Gates") : Lamas de Mouro, Mezio, Lindoso, Campo de Gerês and Montalegre.
