This is a Sami ritual site consisting of a sacrificial stone. It is a huge natural shaped boulder. It is about 2 metres tall and about 4 metres wide in each of the sides. It is pyramid shaped with a pointed top like a triangle.

It is a thin and broad natural stone slab standing leaned against the north side.

The site is heavily overgrown and inside a very thick forest, making it really hard to see the site despite of the size of the boulder. It doesn't look very impressive compared to many other Sami sacrificial sites.

This site was also in use all the way up to the 17th century CE.

How can you tell it's a sacrificial site? What's the story behind it? Is it just an unhewn natural rock or are there carvings?

Hello there!! thanks for the comment! I am sorry I havent replied before, I have been very busy last months!
Well, the sami sacrificial sites were mostly consisted of natural rock formations, stone rings or natural rock outcrops. Some are more distinctive than others, in some of them, bones from sacrificed animals can still be found, I will add one this week, where the bones of sacrificed animals can be seen.
The sacrificial sites is not very old in arceological therms, information, but can have a very variable age, ranging from as old as 400AD and to the early 1900s. About these sacridicial sites, this on for example, I recieve from archives in museums, libraries, and other sources, and also by talking with the local native sami population, a lot of litterature is avialable about old sami mytology, religion and religious traditions.

Some sites can actually also be whole mountains, concidered "holy" in sami traditions, and also there are examples or holy trees.

Carvings can occur in some of the sites, howevery it is rare, mostly it consists of natural rock formations as previously mentioned. Define and recognize a sacrificial site can in some cases be difficult, I have in my sites, only concentrated of confirmed sacrificial sites.

Here is a list of different types of sami sacrificial sites:

    - Natural distinctive rock formations that by shape or size distinct from others natural formations.
    - Human buildt stone rings, rocks laid down forming rings, circles or oval shaped "walls".
    - "Holy mountains"

I hope I have answered all you questions in a satisfying way. Please feel free to ask anything and I will answer as best as I can.

    Kenneth Thanche
