Wanna Steingrab (1)
Wanna Steingrab (1) submitted by Martin_L : The extended dolmen viewed from the South showing the entrance. A view like this currently is only possible in the wintertime. Although it is not obvious in this picture, the site tends to be very overgrown in summertime especially with fern. January 2010 (Vote or comment on this photo)
Almost perfectly preserved extended dolmen situated in the remains of its barrow. All chamber stones are still in situ: Five orthostats covered by two fine capstones. Chamber`s orientation is North-South. Chamber measures appr. 4m x 3m, the clear size is appr. 2,8 x 1,3m. The entrance faces north. The entrance stone is partly broken (according to Sprockhoff et al.) .

There is some evidence that the chamber originally was surrounded by a narrow stone circle. Nine stones of these circle are left but most of them are (slightly) out of place and/or partly overgrown. Furthermore the barrow probably originally had kerbstones. There are five partly overgrown stones at the southeastern and southern edge, that look like kerbstones to me [Dec. 2007]

Visit remarks: The site is rather overgrown during summertime (esp. with fern, small trees and blackberry bushes). Some of the stones are only visible in the wintertime.

Wanna Steingrab (1) submitted by Martin_L : Sketch plan of the tomb (not exactly to scale). For a professional archaeologist´s drawing of the chamber see (Sprockhoff, Ernst (et al.) – Atlas der Megalithgräber Deutschlands – Teil 3 Niedersachsen - Westfalen, Habelt, Bonn, 1975, Atlasband p. 14) Sketch remarks: It is not exactly scaled. The position of the stones belonging to the circle (stones numbered 1-9) surrounding the... (2 comments - Vote or comment on this photo)
