Foxborough Dolmen
Foxborough Dolmen submitted by stonetracker : Rear view with support stones (Vote or comment on this photo)
This is a large, very heavy table-like slab, supported by several small stones on a ledge. In Foxboro state forest, site D on the published map. The slab is elevated no more than 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20cm) off the ledge surface. Still, it must have taken considerable effort to manoeuvre the slab onto its supports.

The top surface of the slab contains two long curved grooves that appear to be deliberately carved rather than the result of weathering or cracks. This is the only structure like this in the park. And there are very few, if any, like it in New England that I can recall.

Foxborough Dolmen
Foxborough Dolmen submitted by stonetracker : interesting feature seen on the trail between the Foxborough Prayer Seat/Stone Ring and the Dolmen site and not on the published map. This is a rock "fill" between outcrops, but note that it is carefully built and not simply a natural spill of rocks. These aren't uncommon at rock pile sites elsewhere in NE, but rare in Foxborough. The state forest has been renamed: "Gilbert Hills State Forest (previously known as Foxboro State Forest) is a 1,027-acre (416 ha), pine and oak Massachusetts state forest located in the towns of Foxborough and Wrentham."
