Stone Circle in Yorkshire (West Riding)

A great little circle, only the largest 3 stones are immediately visible, possibly another 4 hiding in the heather and grass.

For more information see both Pastscape Monument No 48540 and The Northern Antiquarian's page for Dumpit Hill A, Hebden, Grassington, North Yorkshire.

Pastscape tell us that: "The remains of a well defined stone circle situated at SE 02996399.It is comprised of three upright stones, set on edge, and two other stones broken off at ground level all of which appear to be set on a slight earthen bank. In addition, four other stones are recumbent within the circle ... Scheduled RSM No 24475. Scheduling note makes no mention of second circle."

The Northern Antiquarian has directions for finding the stone circle together with photographs, a brief archaeology & history and a link to Dumpit Hill B (see also 'nearby sites' below).

Also click on this link to Historic England List ID 1008780 (RSM 24475, Mossy Moor Ridge) for more details.

Dumpit Hill Enclosure
Dumpit Hill Enclosure submitted by RebeccaPenkett : After visiting Dumpit Hill stone circles A and B on 11 August 2024, we walked to the enclosure. It was quite easy to access from the main path and the Megalithic app helped. There were quite a few stones to show it had been an enclosure. (Vote or comment on this photo)

this hillside is covered in stones so it's hard to distinguish anything deliberately placed. not much convinced that there is anything prehistoric here. the stone pillars further up the beck are a bit more interesting.

Don't visit this site if it's snowed! :-D
I tried to find this today without success.

I did notice an intriguing stone in the yard of Edge House, by the track up from the B6265. It was about 4 feet high. Maybe some nifty landscaping? Have a look if you go up that way.
A little further along the same track is another stone on the right. This one's about 3 feet high. Maybe a renegade gatepost?! But it's alone, with no traces of walling nearby (and maybe a bit short for a gatepost?). I'll post pics if the Ed's think it might be something more...
