Rock Art in Fife
Neolithic cup and ring carvings were discovered this summer on the Binn, a hill just north of Burntisland. The hill is known simply as the Binn - a volcanic plug, the name is thought to be derived from the Brythonic Bryn - hill, degraded over the years simply to Binn. From the Cowdenbeath road, take the path signposted 'To Standing Stanes Road' (leads to Glassmount stones). Head uphill, over the first stile, cross the field and over the second stile. Bear up on the right hand path leading to the Binn, and cross the third stile. From here (depending on the length of your legs - my paces are just over 1m) take 50 paces up the path. Turn hard right (due S) and move into the wood to the fence. Cross the fence, take about 20 paces and there's a large rocky outcrop in front of you. And there they are!

Gortnabinna submitted by frogcottage42 This just about shows there are radial and axial elements to the circle
Gortnabinna submitted by frogcottage42 Almost invisible in the long rushes this monument would benefit from some grazing!

Very difficult to find at the best of times, very overgrown with bracken. Littered with numerous boulders and stones however, revealing the cairn's identity, within the dense forest

Parknabinnia Capstone Factory submitted by enkidu41 R 259933
Close to Parknabinnia (1) wedge tomb are a number of remains (I found at least 5) which look like abandoned workings in which large rough slabs (which abound in the area) were turned into tomb capstones. In short, the area was a capstone factory. To enable them to be worked, the slabs are raised at one end on to a small boulder making them accessible all round. This is one such half fini

A wedge tomb which has partially collapsed. The stone in the foreground may have been the front of the chamber in which case the slipped capstone would originally have been considerably longer. Alternatively, the stone may have been part of an ante-chamber.

A wedge tomb with a 10' long capstone and remains of its cairn still surviving. The E end of the gallery is closed and the W end partially closed with a corner of the door slab removed to make a "spirit entrance" or "soul hole".
