Rock Art in Lombardia
Site in Italy near Como with cup marks.
Via Google translate: "On the surface of the GRANDE ROCCIA DI PRESTINO numerous engravings were identified since the nineteenth century, which today are heavily worn and visible only in particular light conditions. Among these, the hemispherical shells known as cupels prevail, engravings that are frequently found in a vast territory. Some cupels are arranged in scattered order, others are aggregated to form rows or particular shapes, still others are connected by channels. In addition to the cupels, there are various linear incisions that are difficult to interpret, including a concentric circle motif known as a labyrinth and a stylized anthropomorphic figure. On the top of the Great Rock there is also a cylindrical well, 60 cm deep and with a diameter of about 40 cm, which was entirely surrounded by cupels, currently only partially visible. This well has been interpreted either as a deposit for votive offerings or as a housing for a pole of considerable size, not a load-bearing element of a structure but having a totemic function. Also in the upper part of the rock, large rectilinear grooves are visible, arranged symmetrically to form a herringbone pattern."
