There is a nice picknickplace next to it (open 24 hours a day). The graves are well maintained and it makes you wonder how people could bring these stones to this marshlands.

These two long barrows were built by the first Danish people around 3500-3000 B.C. Langdysse 1 is 7.5 meters wide and 13.5 meters long. It is surrounded by 33 stones, and it has had one grave chamber. Langdysse 2 (this one) is 6.5-7 meters wide and 42 meters long surrounded by 84 stones. It contains three grave chambers, one of them has a capstone (covered with turf), the other two are open. The long barrows have a remarkable story:

They were built on a small sandy peninsula close to a river. Later the land were lowered, like the rest of western Jutland, and some areas were flooded by the North Sea. Later it turned into marshland and raised again due to clay sediments.

In the 18th century some large stones were found and split into 14 tall gate-posts. Hence the fen was called Steneng (~ stone meadow) because large stones are quite rare in the marsh. In the 1950'ies the river was straightened and the fens drained in order to cultivate them. Now many large stones appeared, so the National Museum of Denmark started an excavation, and the two long barrows covered by clay and turf were revealed. After an extensive digging and examination where a few flint axes and some amber pearls were found in the untouched grave chambers, the barrows were restored by the Museum, now to a height of 1 meter.
