Burial Chamber (Dolmen) in Rogaland
This burial chamber is located on top of a larger hill or small mountain top called Pålsberget. It is located in the east side only metres from the highest point on the hill. The hill is littered with larger rocks and some larger trees.
Seven large boulders surround a huge boulder in the centre. The centre block is 3x3 metres wide and around 2 metres in height. It is square-shaped with rounded corners. Surrounding the centre boulder are seven round boulders in a circle. They are from 0.6 to 1 metre in height and round shaped. The bottom between the stone circling the boulder and the burial chamber are a lot of smaller round rocks. it seems the ground are have been paved.
Under the middle boulder is a burial chamber oriented east-west. A hole have been dug out under the boulder and the chamber is made of flat slabs carefully placed into one another, around 2 metres in length and around 1 metre wide. Around the chamber are placed larger rocks probably to hold up the huge boulder on top. The rocks might sunken down into the ground and the burial chamber collapsed, it is very difficult to take exact measures of the chamber.
In the burial chamber was found burned human bones and pieces of pottery. The bones was dated back to the age of migration (400-600AD). But there are theories this is in fact a neolithic dolmen that was in some way reused in the migration period during the iron age.
Finding the site can be difficult even though a footpath leads up to the dolmen. In the area are several footpaths criss-crossing the entire little mountain. It is easy to get lost! Visitors should follow the signs marked "Pålsberget".
