Ancient Village or Settlement in Rogaland

The settlement at Klokkarhagen consists of four remains of housings, three large round barrows, a stone fence that separates the fields from the grazing land outside, a livestock trail that once led from the homestead to pasture, and a number of rubble heaps can suggest where the fields were cleared and cultivated. The site is located in a grazing field for sheep and the grass is cut short, making the artifacts easy to observe.

No definitive studies have been made to ascertain the dates of the artifacts found, but their location and design suggest that this was a settlement during the Germanic migrations (400-600AD) It may also have been in use afterwards during the Viking era and the middle ages.

The four housing foundations are set very close to each other and they appear is low long mounds of earth and stone with the depression between them. Some of the housing foundations are very close to each other and can be hard to distinguish from one another. They are all around 15-20 metres long.

The three large round barrows are around 18 metres across and around 2 metres in height. one of them have been restored in later years and it looks very pretty! It has some larger trees growing on top.

The settlement is close to the settlement at Nonsberget, and between the two settlements are some barrow cemeteries with a large number of smaller cairns. It could be that the two settlements shared parts of the same barrow cemetery.
