Haft Tepe is the site of a palace, burial chamber and ziggurat complex dated to around 1400BC and identified as the ancient centre of Kabnak. The site is located near the village of Haft Tepe on the road to Chogha Zanbil and was first excavated in 1908, then more thoroughly in a fourteen year period from 1965 through to 1978. There is a modern museum on the site (the Latitude and Longitude coordinates are for the museum - the archaeological site is immediately adjacent to the museum). Excavations revealed a temple and underground burial chambers which are visible from the roadside. The arch of the burial chamber is important as it is in the the same style but earlier than that at Ctesiphon. There were bronze plates and painted walls in the temple which was used to worship the god Kirwashir. The museum has an excellent display of items exavated from the site, although some items such as three moulded life size clay heads are now in Susa Museum. At the rear of the archaeological site there are the remains of a ziggurat complex which has undergone some restoration.
