Eltyubyu is an ancient Balkarian settlement located in the mountains of the Caucasus in a very picturesque place. In our time it became known because of the monument of antiquity, located near the village and called "City of the Dead". Also, thanks to him, the village was declared a miracle of Russia in 2009. It is located in the picturesque Chegem gorge, through which many years ago one of the roads of the great silk road passed.
The first people appeared in these places not less than 15 thousand years ago, this is the date of the first found ancient settlement of a man in the grotto of Kala-Tyuby. Not far from the grotto are the remains of a wooden fortification from the 6th to the 10th century, in which there was even a wooden plumbing, which speaks also of the high development of civilization in these mountains.
Most people are attracted not by the village itself, but by the adjacent ancient cemetery and a complex of mausoleums built around the 10th-17th centuries AD.
In the "City of the Dead" 8 ground mausoleums, (keshene), four of which are rectangular with a gable roof, and the other four - octagonal with dome-shaped.
As well as fenced ancient stone graves with small stone walls without any identification marks.
Crypts (Tomb), apparently, looted, some destroyed, incomprehensible, people or raging elements.
The severity and grandeur of the surrounding landscape is striking. You experience a holy awe.
