Museum in Istanbul

Rıdvan Çelikel Archaeology Museum, which was established within the Archaeology Department of the Faculty of Literature of Istanbul University and prepared by expert academics, was opened on July 1, 2019. Located in the courtyard of IU Faculty of Letters, the museum welcomes its visitors with important works that shed light on the history of the humanity it contains.

The museum, opened with the contributions of business person Rıdvan Çelikel, introduces the known cultures of Anatolia from the Palaeolithic Age to the Ancient Age. It hosts many ethnographic works such as the oldest pottery, stone tools, coins, tiles, jewellery and storage containers in the history of mankind. The museum also includes sections describing the contributions of Istanbul University to Anatolian archaeology.

The museum, which has a cafeteria and seating areas in its garden, is free of charge, but it is open every day between 08:30 - 17:00 on weekdays. A part of the museum is reserved for students to practise. There are also workshops where open archaeology trainings will be given to all age groups coming from outside, especially to Istanbul University students.
