Ancient Temple in Greek Islands (Aegean etc)
The Yria temple is part of an ancient Sanctuary of Dionysos. Worship began at this place during the 14th century BCE during the Mycenaean years lasted up to the late Roman Period. The Temple of Irion together with the Sanctuary of Gyroula are considered architecturally the forerunner of the Parthenon. The temple that can be viewed today dates to the 6th century BCE. The foundations of three other temples, all dedicated to Dionysos, were found below the archaeological site.
