Barrow Cemetery in Bohemia

The best preserved barrow cemetery in the region of Pilsen - southwest Bohemia. This large prehistoric necropolis was intermittently used from Middle Bronze Age (1700-1300 BC) till late Hallstatt and early La Tene period (6th-5th century BC). The oldest cairns are the biggest and a youngest are conversely hardly recognizable in the undulating forest terrain. And as well construction of mounds differs in time. Some barrows are earthen and some have massive stone structure.

The barrow cemetery "Háje" near ‘Nová Huť’ was intesively investigated from 19th century till1950s. Up to 125 barrows is recorded till these days. Rich archeological findings include ceramic vessels, bronze weapons and jewellery, including several gold artefacts.
