Barrow Cemetery in Akershus
The Vardehaug barrow cemetery consists of 8 preserved barrows. The cemetery has previously consisted of several more barrows but some of them have been erased by construction of houses and roads nearby.

The site is surrounded by a small neighbourhood with houses all around. The cemetery is in a small park area with only a few large trees and mostly only grass, making the barrows easy to see and photograph. The site also has an information sign and a small parking lot.

The largest barrow is a beautiful round barrow with a diameter of around 25 metres and 3.5 metres in height. It has the typical clear ditch around it. It is found farthest to the west in the cemetery close to a small road. It has a beautiful shape and seems to be intact.
The second large barrow is also a beautiful round barrow with a diameter of around 24 metres and around 3 metres in height. It is closest to the highway and a small piece of the barrow have been cut off by the road.
The four medium-sized barrows are from 11 to 14 metres in diameter and from 1 to 2 metres in height. They also have the ditch around and covered only with short grass and are easy to see. The two smallest barrows are around 8-9 metres across and around 1 metre in height.

The site also had two standing stones, but these were removed years ago, probably for the construction of buildings. None of the barrows have been excavated but the site is believed to date back to the age of migration (around 500AD). Several other artifacts from this period have been found in other barrows close to the site.
