Stone Circle in Oppland

In the middle of the small village called Biri with small houses around is a beautiful stone circle. It is easy to find as the site is marked with a signpost and a small parking lot and it just next to the main road going trough the village.

The circle has once consisted of 9 stone blocks but one of the stones have been lost years ago. It is easy to see the open space where the missing stone has once been. The circle has not been excavated but it believed to be a grave monument from around 400-600 AD. The stone blocks are similar in size and shape and are around 1 metre in height and around 1 metre wide. The stone is around 20 metres in diameter and around 2,5 to 3 metres spaces between the stones.

There is some very interesting myths and old folk tales about the stone circle. One is about the stone called "The prayer stone". This stone is a little lower and more flat than the other stones and it was said that pregnant women should pray at this stone for a easy birth and it would come true.
