Ancient Village or Settlement in Faro
The hillsides in the coastal area of the Algarve are full of signs of (very) old habitation. If there are no new buildings and you see a piece of land with small firm walls made of natural stones, then you can assume it is a sign of old habitation. Walls that support platforms on the hillside. This fertile coastal area with a nice climate, was very densed populated.
The settlement of Vale de Centianes is such a place and once archeologists have been taken care of it. Now it is fully grown with plants but you can still wander over old paths.
The entrance to Vale de Centianes is from the M530 (appr. 30 meters from the busstop). You can even park your car along the road there.
You go up the hill by a winding path and you will find all kinds of walls that border small platforms were people must have been living once. Some of these walls have a bit damage, and this gives a good insight how technically strong these walls were constructed actually. That is a reason that they are still here, after thousands of years.
From there you can also see walls at the opposite hill.
A truly adventures site.
