De Profundis Clamavit. A few questions asked by a desolate contributor, hard at work, eager to be precise and concise : 1.- Is this page meant to document the Mosterio de Paderne, on the Caminho de Santiago de Compostela ??? 2.- In general, what is the point of mentioning sites with such an accuracy : Condition: no data Ambience: no data Access: no data Accuracy: 2 ? 3.- Shouldn't a list of all those green castros posted in a forum be a more appropriate place, a list on which anybody with solid documentation could work ?

I am sure TheCaptain will come back to us with more specifics but the general aim of plotting sites on our map like this is to get basic information 'out there' in a visual and accessible form to encourage further contributions and increased accuracy to be determined. As you say the accuracy is indicated as 'Nearest Village' only. This initial data is intended to form the framework for further research on the ground, in books, papers and online.

Do not feel desolate - we have carried out this process in other regions and countries in the past and have found that it works. Over several years the site data will be refined into an accurate record, with descriptions and images. It is a collaborative effort so many thanks for your assistance. When more 'concrete' data is posted the 'owner' of the page (submitted by) will be changed from TheCaptain to reflect the submitter of the new information and other contributors will also be credited on the page. (a simplification of a longer curating process - please ask if you would like more details)

      Welcome here Alta-Falisa.

There are probably many Spanish and Portuguese Castros I found (possibly from a listing on Wickipedia) several years ago during a few days off work with a torn calf muscle. During this time I added many "blank" Spanish site pages for various sites I had found referred to in various books and other sources I had.

These will all simply say something like XXX is a Castro in the community of XXX in XXX Portugal, and have been given a position I found from either Google Earth pictures, any maps I could find, or for just the nearest village.

Please feel welcome to update any of them as best you think possible. After all, this is one of the reasons for adding the basic pages. Somebody like you finds it and can then add to our knowledge and database.

        Good evening Captain,
I have visited two such Castros (near Braga) last month, and will suggest to create these sites, and add one of two photos in a couple of days.
If you work on Portugal, I suggest that we stay in touch. I'm presently documenting the North of Portugal. I think that davidmorgan is somewhere in the South, or in Spain.

Thanks, Andy, for your explanation. I'm still in the process of decrypting how the Portal works behind the scene. My dream, probably certainly your dream as well, would be to tend, for each monument of importance, towards short monographies like on this site : http://www.steinzeugen.de/)
One more question : is there one or more administrators in charge of a given region (of particular interest for me at the moment : Portugal), or are the administrators acting collectively ?

Yes that 's the idea to work towards, we can accept plan images as well as photos if people would like to post them. Admins do have areas they tend to specialise in but the site pages and images are edited by most of us, no one person has singular control of one area. We don't have anyone with a specialism in the Iberian Peninsula unfortunately. A rundown of the various admins is here.
