Interpretation Center / Museum about the history of the coastal area of the Ria Formosa and the lagunes and islands. It is situated in the middle of the Parque Natural of Ria Formosa.
Essential to human nutrician, salt was already produced in Ria Formosa by pre-roman inhabitants.
The Romans had a large fish preservation industry -Quinta de Marim 1- and had international trading harbour.
It was used for fish preservation and preperation, stored and traded around the coast.
The interpretation center exposes some of the roman artifacts.
Also it gives a good contextual overview about its geological origins, the sealife and its shells and fishes the sea and lagunes.
