Passage Grave in Castilla y León
A much destroyed Megalith dating from 3.500-3.000 BC. “El Tesoro” is a Passage Grave formed by a circular chamber, an access corridor oriented to the SE and an earth and stone tumulus.
“El Tesoro” was excavated and restored in 1995, yielding all kinds of Neolithic implements including geometric microliths and laminated knives. Other findings, - dating from later dates,- show the alteration of the site in more recent times. The name of the site – meaning “The Treasure” – can be traced to a small trove of Roman bronze coins which was found inside the chamber.
Part of the restoration of “El Tesoro” includes the building of a Passage Grave replica which can be found – in a somewhat deteriorated state – close to the site.
The Megalith can be found in the small village of Morales del Rey. It is signposted on the right hand side of the road to Quiruelas de Vidriales.
Latitude and Longitude are approximate data obtained through multimap.
