Round barrow or motte in Yorkshire (North)

This large (33 m in diameter and up to 4.2 m high) artificial mound has been previously interpreted as a Bronze Age round barrow, but now it is believed to be a medieval motte.

Indeed, the mound has a flat top which suggests existence of a tower on its top. Moreover, the location is a very defensive one, Round Hill is located on a promontory overlooking the valley of River Leven.

"Transactions of the Architectural and Archaeological Society of Durham and Northumberland" from 1980 list this site as a possible barrow.
