cliffrich visited on 22nd Nov 2018 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 3 Access: 2 A long walk from the Ventnor Road but once there the views are well worth it! If you know what you're looking for you will find the nearly flattened barrows but tell-tale mounds are there to be seen. Mounds can be seen all over this area which makes me think that it is a cemetery rather than just a couple barrows - I've asked the IWCC if this is the case and they've told me that the other lumps could be from mining or as other unconfirmed barrows or pillow mounds. The trig mark is only obvious once you're in the field but no sooner. See video - https://youtu.be/VmVQ-JwC2fg?t=1

Shanklin Down Barrows submitted by RingPaw : Barrow in foreground; towns of Shanklin & Sandown, white Culver Cliff + Portsmouth and the South Downs beyond. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Two barrows close to a trigonometrical pillar - which seem to have mostly disappeared, although one is discernable in the long lush grass of my visit (you may have more luck after the sheep have been feeding).

Situated a little way north-west of the white pillar in the corner of a field close to the junction of bridleway and footpath as marked on the OS map.

Good walking or riding access, a fair distance from car parking, but a flattish ridge-walk from the car park close to the Luccombe Down barrow cemetery site.
