Dane's Graves
Dane's Graves submitted by SumDoood : Short of time and daylight inside the narrow western end of the woodland I walked quickly out and back and counted 48 graves inside the plantation! How many there are in all I don't know. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This is a cemetery of the Parisi people from the 2nd century BCE. In 1897 one of the barrows was found to contain the bodies of 2 men with a chariot and items of harness.

It's assumed to be a chieftain and his charioteer who was presumably killed so as to accompany the chieftain.

Dane's Graves submitted by SumDoood : I found this to be one of the most excitingly odd places I've ever visited. Avoid the industrial estate (populated on my first visit by a Polish lorry driver and a, I guess, successful Kurdish asylum seeker with very little English). Park your vehicle *on the verge* on the north side of the woodland and walk west along the north edge of the wood. At the end turn south for 100m or so, pass a ... (Vote or comment on this photo)

I understand that many of the excavated finds are in the Hull and East Riding Museum.
