Standing Stone (Menhir) in Aberdeenshire

This standing stone is recorded as Canmore ID 18332 which tells us that in 1885: "'on the summit of the Hill of Balnoon, or rather on its neck towards the east, there was till lately a lofty upright stone called 'The Conwath' or 'Conway Stone', and by some 'The Charter Stone'. It was surrounded by a slight ditch... The old name of the parish was Conveth.'

Their 1964 update says there is: "no sign of a standing stone was evidenced at Hill of Balnoon centred at NJ 6265 4507. There is a farm with the name 'Charterstone' at NJ 6302 4502, but the present owners know nothing of this feature."

The Northern Antiquarian also have an entry for this now destroyed stone - see their page for Conwath Stone, Inverkeithny, Banffshire, which add some local folklore.

Note: Does anyone have any historical drawings or further information about this stone?
