In the Amsterdam University Allard Pierson Museum was a special exhibition about the reconstruction of the lost colours used in antiquity to enhance sculptures. To see them as they were seen in their own time often completely changes the rather strict and stately impression we have of these sculptures and gives them a brighter, more lifelike, sometimes more folksy or even kitschy appearance. All in the eye of the beholder of course! This images shows the reconstructed and painted version of what is now a very grey and dull looking sculpture.
