The Grosse Pierre is carbonated sandstone with particular characteristics : the nearest deposit is about 50 km southwards (in the Famenne).
Capstone of a dolmen ?
The Grosse Pierre weighs 1250 kg. Its flat base would have enabled it to be rolled over logs. If erected on smaller supports, the whole would have formed a dolmen -- but this is purely conjectural.
In its present place since 1995 (previous location unknown to me).
