Hillfort in Swietokrzyskie

A large early medieval hillfort is located on a lowland meadow east of the village of Wiślica. It was one of the most important settlements in this area and was occupied until the 13th century, although it is possible that beginnings of settlement in Wiślica date back to the later phase of Tribal period (9th century AD). Its earliest rampart was reinforced with a drystone wall, which is very rare in Polish early medieval hillforts, but common in Moravia and Slovakia.
