TheCaptain visited on 5th Aug 2024 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 3 A walk along the coast path from Chapel Porth around St Agnes Head to Trevaunance Cove, meeting up with family for lunch at Schooners bar. A lovely walk with lots of old mine remains, from where we can see Tubby's Head jutting out into the ocean below, just about able to make out some of the defensive ramparts.

Tubby´s Head
Tubby´s Head submitted by Bladup : Tubby's Head (mid distance) from the South (Vote or comment on this photo)
Iron Age coastal promontory fort cut off from the mainland by approximately 20 metres of bank 2.3 metres wide and 0.9 metres high and ditch 3 metres wide with a causewayed entrance near its northern end.

Alternatively, it is suggested to be a defended landing point, as a flat expanse of rock near the waterline could have provided a suitable natural quay.

Tubby´s Head
Tubby´s Head submitted by Antonine : Tubby’s head has a 20m long bank and ditch, once part of an ancient cliff castle dating between the second century BC and the first century AD. The site would have covered an area of about 0.45ha. Occupation was evident due to the presence of a shell midden. Two hut circles were located in 1985. The photo was taken in 2010. Tubby’s Head is on the left with Wheal Coates in the foreground. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Tubby´s Head submitted by Bladup : Tubby's Head, The seaward end, I think here at Tubby's Head they were defending from the sea and the whole of St Angus headland was one big promontory fort, with Bolster bank it's eastern land defences

Tubby´s Head
Tubby´s Head submitted by Bladup : Tubby's Head defences, I think they were actually defending from the Sea here, If Bolster Bank is this headlands massive Eastern Defences (defending from the land), This little fort is the headlands Western defences (defending from the sea), If i'm right this would make St Angus headland one of the biggest promontory forts in the country, which is ironic really as Tubby's head fort is so small!
