Ancient Village or Settlement in Ukraine

Plisnesk (Plisnesko) was first inhabited by Early Slavs in 7th century as a cult center, which later evolved into a city of the White Croats. By 11th-12th centuries, the area came under control of the Kyivan Rus', and was abandoned in 13th century. The hillfort and a number of burial mounds survive from these time periods. The Pidhirtsi Monastery located nearby was built in 18th century on top of the remains of a Rus'-era church. The Plisnesk archaeological complex is protected as a Historic and Cultural Reserve, and its components are monuments of national importance.
