Ebracher Bildstein
Ebracher Bildstein submitted by Mura : Probable Iron Age Statue Menhir found near the former Ebrach Monastery in 1938 and taken to the Bamberg Historical Museum together with 3 other statue menhirs found in 1857. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Nowadays exhibited at Historisches Museum Bamberg this anthropomorphic menhir was discovered in 1918 near Kloster (= Abbey) Ebrach 35km West of Bamberg. It obviously wasn’t in situ. It is assumed the statue originates from older iron-age (Hallstatt).

Another theory says it is only from 9th/10th century. Anyway it shows several similarities with other european antrophomorphic menhirs, that definitely originate from prehistoric times. The archaic face includes eyes, nose, mouth and a moustache/beard (?). The body only features arms, fingers and an arched object around the neck.
