Ancient Village or Settlement in Ukraine
Verkhnii Saltiv is one of the two type sites of the Saltiv-Mayaki (Saltovo-Mayaki) culture, which existed from 8th to 10th centuries. The complex is composed of the hillfort, ruins of the settlement, and underground burial sites. The territory is protected as a museum-reserve.
The findings from archaeological excavations are displayed in numerous museums outside the town, while the local museum is currently empty since its exposition was relocated to Kharkiv during the Russian invasion. The museum was greatly damaged by missiles, and the archaeological site was mined.
