Promontory Fort / Cliff Castle in Ukraine
The area near Tustan was first inhabited by White Croats in 9th century, but was then conquered by the Kyivan Rus' in 10th century. A wooden fortress was built on a rock formation that includes numerous monoliths, boulders, and man-made structures. It served as a border fort between the Rus' and Hungary. After the fall of the Rus', the fortress came under Polish control and entirely ceased to exist in 16th century. Lower stone parts of the fortress walls survive to this day.
