Lemmy visited on 11th May 2025 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 4 Access: 4 I found the menhir (see photo). From the D138, turn right onto the track leading to "La Chablère". Approximately 100 metres before the houses, a small path leads off to the left into the forest. Take this on foot. About 30 metres further along this path, a sign indicates "Menhir" on the right. The standing stone is a few metres further on in the copse.

TheCaptain visited on 29th Apr 2005 Either I missed this menhir marked on my ign map or else there is a ruinous allée couverte here or perhaps the menhir is broken and had a field clearance cairn made around it.

A menhir is marked on the ign map near the hamlet of La Chablère to the southwest of Oisseau in Mayenne.

I tried a visit in April 2005, but I couldnt be quite sure what there is here. I saw a mound and stones atop a little hill which I assumed to be the site, but wasn't able to get any nearer so I wonder what it was that I found. Perhaps I completely missed it, maybe there is a ruinous allée couverte here, or perhaps the menhir has had a field clearance cairn made around it.

Hello, I went to see that menhir. In fact, this ws not where you took the picture. We get lost in the little wood, were on the top of the hill between field and trees) . We turn around for 1 hour. We give up and decided to ask to the farmer closeby). So this is 600 ft down from where you took the picture, close to the farm. It was very well hided. A very small sign show the way. maybe easier in winter (without leaves)

Thanks for adding pictures and details for these Mayenne sites for us. I always liked Mayenne as a place. But I do wonder what it is that I took that picture of, it certainly looks like something - too long ago now to fully remember exactly where I was - from the days before gps and I was just working off very undetailed paper maps (and the ign has updated and added many more prehistoric sites since then), not really sure what to expect as this was my first full day out in my campervan! Over 20 years ago now!
