Rock Art in Lombardia

The highest rock carvings in Europe, in Alta Valtellina.

In 2017, by chance, the hiker Tommaso Malinverno found the rock panels with carvings. In the last 7 years, experts climbed up to the place and studied it deeply.

The Bronze Age petroglyphs found beneath Pizzo Tresero (Valfurva, Stelvio National Park, Italy), touch on an entirely unexplored aspect of the relationship between ancient peoples (1600–1200 BCE), the environment, the need for expression, and the connection to the supernatural.
There are human figures, arms raised to the sky, resembling the famous “praying figures” also found at the Rupe Magna in Grosio and on the other side of the passes, among the celebrated rocks of Valcamonica (Unesco site). Beside these, carved into rock smoothed by glaciers, is a spiral. There are also depictions of animals and other geometric figures, whose meanings have always remained mysterious (possibly resembling “topographical signs”).

This text is the essence of the exceptional find described here:
Archaeo Reporter, 18th November 2024:
The Highest Rock carvings in Europe Discovered in the Italian Alps Valtellina

The rocks are located on the western side of Pizzo Tresoro, where the Tresero glacier is melting. Capanna Bernasconi is not far away. I could not make out more precise coordinates.
