mfrincu visited on 17th Jul 2015 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 5 Access: 4 The temple is located on a hill and requires a 15 minute climb - barefoot - on stone steps.
The statue was carved out of a single peice of granite in AD 981. Depicting the son of a great emperor and the first Jain teacher, legend describes how he renounced worldly wealth and withdrew to the forest where he meditated in complete stillness until he attained enlightenment. One notices vines curling around his legs, a sign of complete detachment. Access is via 614 rock - cut steps and no shoes are allowed!
