The 83 m high Rock Fort is the only outcrop in otherwise flat land of Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, the rock is one of the oldest in the world (3.800 million years).

344 steps hewn out of the rock lead to the top where there are inscriptions dated to the 3rd century BCE.

At the top of the rock is the Uchipillaiyar Koil temple dedicated to lord Vinayaka.

In the temple complex more temples and rock cut temples dated to Pallava period (6th- 7th century CE).
